How do you change song names and artists?

I downloaded some songs but occasionally there would be an error in the artist or song name itself. For example, ';linkoln park - one step closer'; instead of ';Linkin Park - One Step Closer';. To correct the error I would simply change the name of the file to fix it but once I put it on something like, Windows Media Player or itunes it would immediately change back into its original name, completely ignoring the change I made to it. Do I have to change the name of the song using some sort of special method or something because this is getting really annoying?How do you change song names and artists?
If you put it in iTunes then right click the song, go to ';Get Info';, then ';Info'; and you can edit the song title, artist, etc.

Right click on the song, select properties and make sure ';Read-Only'; is not checked off, if checked, uncheck then change it again; should work this time.
