How do we legally change our names?

My fiance and son have 1 name and I have another. We want to chose an old family name instead. What way would be easiest, changing his name or mine before we are married? How do we change our son's to match? How do we legally change our names?
Go to the county clerk and they will give you the paperwork needed to file. You have to (each) get a criminal background check from the state and the feds (this costs about $25 or $30) and takes several weeks. You also (in my state, anyhow) have to run a notice for three days in the newspaper stating your old name and that it will be changing to your new name. After you do these things, you will go to a hearing where the judge asks you if you are changing it for any illegal reasons, and it is then official. The biggest pain is having to change it with social security, bank, bills - all that. Contact the clerk's office and they will tell you the specifics for your state. How do we legally change our names?
Contact Barry Soetoro, he should be able to point you in the right direction.
