I Have a netgear wireless router...i wanna make it so no one can use it but the people i give the password to..how do i change the name of my router and make a password?Netgear router help please read details..Change Name of router and make a password?
I assume that you're referring about the wireless settings to secure your network, right?

Go to your Netgear's interface by typing in the default gateway of your router on any browser. Usually, netgear has 192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.1 (to find your router's default gateway, you can go to Start%26gt;Run%26gt;type ';cmd';, on the command prompt, type ';ipconfig'; then hit Enter. It will show the IP Address, Subnet Mask and the default gateway.)

Once you got in on your Netgear's interface, look for Wireless Settings under SET UP, then there you can change your router's name or SSID to any name that you wish. For the password, under Security Options, you can either choose WEP (most commonly used) or WPA (which is more secured). If you choose WEP, under SECURITY ENCRYPTION (WEP), select OPEN SYSTEM under Authentication type and 64 bit Encryption Key (10 hexadecimal characters), but if you'll choose WPA, you can go and create any password.

Take note that after doing this, you need to reestablish your connection between your wireless computers to your router.

First, you need to connect a computer directly to the router using an Ethernet cable.

Next, open a browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc)

In the address bar, type the IP address of the router (if it hasn't been reconfigured from the default settings, it should be either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 )

A web page should launch where you can make configuration changes, including the name of your network (router), the IP address, username and password.

You should also configure the wireless security while you're in there. If your laptop can use WPA2 for the encryption mode, use it because it's more secure than using WEP or WPA

If you need the specifics for exactly how to configure your router, go to Netgear's support page, find your router, and download the user's manual.

Good luck!!
You simply configure your router in Internet explorer.

type:192.168.0.1 in title box

then this info when prompted to

name : admin

Pass: password

Confirm this info on your router should be on the back.

set up your basic settings

set up your security settings

Routers sorta run you through a step by step process it is very easy.

the SSID is the name you want seen

create a Password

secure it using WEP is fine for home use.

Always remember to hit apply after changes or it will not save information.
you don't do it like that just by handing a password out...

you have to secure the system enter a list of IP address numbers into the router... then give each computer a IP Address and only allow those IP addresses to be used.. besides the password
