How to change name details on house deeds?

About 24 yrs ago hubby %26amp; mother in law took out a mortgage on our home (he was too young to have a mortgage on his own at that time). He has always payed the mortgage (which is now cleared) and all the other bills etc for the house. Once we were married (nearly 20 yrs ago) mother in law moved out. She has now realised that her name is still on the house deeds and we would like to take her name off and add my name. How do we go about this? Is it fairly easy to do? Is it expensive? Please Note: I am in UK so only answers relevant to my country please. Many thanks in advanceHow to change name details on house deeds?
Get a copy of the original deed out from wherever it is (probably safe deposit box) and see how title was taken.

Then use the same language that was used when the property was deeded to husband and mother-in-law.

She can either deed you her interest, or if you want to take title with your husband together (as joint tenants, if possible), then both husband and mother-in-law grant it to husband and wife.

If you want to take title in joint tenancy (if that's possible in UK), then just use the same language that was in the original deed. Replace the name(s) of the original grantor(s) with husband and mother-in-law's names - ON A BRAND NEW DEED - DON'T CROSS OFF ON ORIGINAL DEED. Replace the names of the original grantees (husband and mother in law) to your names (husband and wife).

ORIGINAL says:

XYZ Corporation hereby grants to Mary Jones and Michael Jones, blah, blah, blah.

YOU CHANGE TO

Mary Jones and Michael Jones hereby grant to Michael Jones and YOUR NAME, blah, blah, blah

If you just want mother-in-law to grant to you, do the same as above (but replace name of original grantor(s) with mother-in-law's name) and replace name of one of the original grantees (mother in law) with your name.

For example:

ORIGINAL says:

XYZ Corporation hereby grants to Mary Jones and Michael Jones, blah, blah, blah.

YOU CHANGE TO

Mary Jones hereby grants to YOUR NAME, blah, blah, blah.

JUST REMEMBER - get a blank deed that has the same language as the one in which husband and mother in law took title to the house.
